Elvis Costello and The Imposters – Steve Nieve (keyboards), Davey Faragher (bass), Pete Thomas (drums) – have made a sensational new album that ranks alongside the best work this singularly great artist has ever produced.

Recorded in Hollywood, New York City and Vancouver, British Columbia, ‘Look Now’ is beautiful in its simplicity, reflective in its lyrical vision, surrounded by melodies and orchestrations that are nothing short of heavenly. It’s the first album Costello has made with The Imposters since the 2008 release of ‘Momofuku’ and his first new album since the acclaimed 2013 Roots collaboration, ‘Wise Up Ghost’.

Anyone anywhere in the world who has seen Elvis Costello and The Imposters live can testify to their unmitigated swagger. Costello’s suspicion that it was time to return to the studio was confirmed while on the ‘Imperial Bedroom & Other Chambers’ tour of the USA, last summer and he realized the power and sheer musicality of The Imposters had never really been fully captured on one record.

“I knew if we could make an album with the scope of ‘Imperial Bedroom’ and some of the beauty and emotion of ‘Painted From Memory’, we would really have something”, said Costello.

‘Look Now’ is an outstanding 12-strong addition to his song catalogue. Most of the titles were written solely by Elvis Costello although, ‘Don’t Look Now’ and ‘Photographs Can Lie’ were co-written with Burt Bacharach, who makes a guest appearance, leading The Imposters from the piano for those two ballads.

Another song to which Bacharach contributed, ‘He’s Given Me Things’ features some of the best singing Elvis has ever recorded, while ‘Burnt Sugar Is So Bitter’ was written with Carole King and closes with a serpentine horn line winding around Steve Nieve’s atmospheric keyboard parts.

The album was co-produced by Elvis and Sebastian Krys – the Latin Grammy Producer of the Year for 2007 and 2015, whose love and understanding of music spans both hemispheres.

Sebastian had worked extensively with Pete and Davey in the Los Angeles studios, so it’s no surprise that this dynamic rhythm section was incredibly well-prepared for the recording sessions. “When Pete and Davey are in this kind of rare form, it’s wise to get on the back-beat with your Telecaster and stay out of their way”, said Costello.

Speaking of his own role as co-producer, Costello said, “I had all of the orchestrations and vocal parts in my head or on the page before we played a note, so it was essential that I worked closely with Steve Nieve to maintain the light and space in the arrangements and allow him to shine.”

Costello completed the picture by adding both guitar and his own vibraphone or celesta parts to his orchestrations but remarked, “Sebastian was there to make sure only the essential notes got onto the record, whether it was a fuzz-tone guitar or jazz bassoon.”

“In the final mixing, Sebastian did a beautiful job of keeping everything present but always lead by emotion or narrative, although when balancing the band, my voice and the quartet of woodwinds and horns that I’d written for ‘Stripping Paper’, I told him to “Just trust the blur.”

From today, fans who pre-order the 12-track standard or the 16-song deluxe album from digital retailers will instantly receive a download of two of the album’s standout tracks ‘Under Lime’ and ‘Unwanted Number’.

Asked for a further comment on the “Instant Gratification” phenomenon, Costello said, “That’s just the latest record business gimmick-speak for something you can get right away. I have to be straight with you; that sounds like a personal service that you might be offered in a dubious massage parlour.”

“I’d prefer to say that “The Elvis Costello Record Shop” is open for business again and when you pre-order the album, ‘Look Now’ you can get a couple of songs, RIGHT NOW”

Look out for more of these RIGHT NOW songs from ‘Look Now’ dropping in the weeks prior to the album’s release.

Including London O2 Forum November 20th

With their eagerly anticipated new album coming September 21st, METRIC have released the first single from it “Dark Saturday”, available on all streaming platforms now.

For the first time in 3 albums, guitarist Jimmy Shaw did not co-produce, preferring to hand over the production mantle to first time collaborator Justin Meldal-Johnsen who has previously worked with M83, Beck and Nine Inch Nails to name only a few. The album, which was recorded in METRIC’s own Giant Studio in Toronto, was also mixed by first time collaborator Tony Hoffer, whose countless credits include Phoenix, Depeche Mode and Air.

“Justin was just what we needed in a producer for this album”, says Jimmy. “He really saw every band member eye to eye and was able to capture what we each do best. It was something I realized I couldn’t do at this stage, having been in the band for so long. We were finally able to focus on just playing again, as we did at the start. Making this album brought us together in a way we hadn’t been for quite some time and I think you can hear it in the music.”

“This is our seventh album as a band”, says iconic frontwoman Emily Haines, “and we wanted the first song people heard from it to be “Dark Saturday” as a sonic heads up that our guitars are back in force. Lyrically, the song depicts a dystopian night life scene of gaudy wealth where oblivious party girls say nauseating things like, ‘I’m so rich everything’s free.’”

On July 12th METRIC kicked off a 38-date run of live performances in arenas across North America as special guests on the reunion tour of alternative rock legends Smashing Pumpkins. Tickets are available from www.ilovemetric.com/tour/

METRIC play the following UK dates in November as part of their European tour:

November
Sat 17th   BIRMINGHAM, O2 Institute 2
Sun 18th   GLASGOW, Queen Margaret Union
Mon 19th  MANCHESTER, O2 Ritz
Tues 20th  LONDON, O2 Kentish Town Forum

Lyrical excerpt of “Dark Saturday”:

Somewhere in the south of France, or the Caribbean Sea, she said, “I don’t need to make a living, fake diamonds got nothing on me”. I met her in the world below, she’s a tourist of the world beneath. I said, “Everything I built from nothing.” She said, “I’m so rich everything’s free.” So dark it ain’t so dark.

Forever and never, a torch in search of a flame. To be good, get better. I change by staying the same. Forever and never, a night in search of a day. As anxious as ever, it’s such a Dark Saturday.

What’s your name and where you from? Well I’m worth your weight in gold. While we lie here in the sun, the whole wide world’s about to explode. Now our bodies intertwine, and the truth is plain to see. I said, “Everything I built from nothing.” She said, “Don’t you blame your problems on me.”

A “Dark Saturday” music video directed by long-time collaborator Justin Broadbent and shot on the fly with nothing more than an iPhone X was also released today – watch it HERE. “The band and I agreed that shooting on an iPhone would be a good way to immediately connect a visual style to the authentic feeling of this record”, said Broadbent. “Because it was a ‘run and gun’ style video, we needed our footprint to be tiny and quick but the video quality still needed to be high. I think this also let the band relax, not having a huge camera and lights around while allowing me the freedom to try things on the fly.  Even the design of the final video looks like four separate screens magically lining up together.”

All pre-orders come with an immediate instant-grat download of “Dark Saturday” and will ship to arrive in time for release day. A minimum of 2 additional instant-grat tracks will be available for download prior to that. Fans who pre-order the album early will receive a signed, limited edition “Dark Saturday” 7” flexi-disc vinyl with their purchase at no extra cost, available only while supplies last.

SECOND LEG OF EVOLVE WORLD TOUR THIS SUMMER

Today multi-platinum, GRAMMY® Award-winning band Imagine Dragons release a brand-new song entitled “Natural” via KIDinaKORNER / Interscope Records. The band will perform the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this Thursday, July 19th. “Natural” has been chosen as the anthem of this year’s ESPN college football season.

“Living in a dog-eat-dog world can bring out the worst in you, and sometimes, the best,” says the band’s singer Dan Reynolds. “It would be a lie to tell you I haven’t become somewhat skeptical about some things in the last decade of my life. However, I believe that when you truly learn to love yourself, the judging eyes and hateful words become meaningless. ‘Natural’ is about finding yourself and being willing and able to stand up to whatever adversity comes your way.”

Imagine Dragons’ third studio album ‘Evolve’ has been certified double-platinum in the US within a year of its June 2017 release. Evolve has spent 55 weeks on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart, where it currently sits at No. 17. The album is also 12th in the world on Spotify with over 36 million monthly listeners.

Imagine Dragons are currently out on the road for the second leg of their Evolve World Tour. See all upcoming dates HERE.

Watch Official Video For Lead Track ‘Loudmouth’ HERE

Following the release of their latest superb sonic offering “Ghost,” which V Magazine hailed as a “funky groove-rock jam,” American four-piece RUSSO has released their incredible debut EP, “House With A Pool” worldwide.

RUSSO are on the fast track to becoming one of the most exciting bands to emerge in 2018. Their sound, a refreshing blend of ska-pop and rock, coupled with their sweat-infused, high-energy live performances, critics are quick to compare this California based band to the likes of No Doubt and Blondie with Clash saying their ‘songwriting bristles with energy and a palpable emotional connection’.

‘House With A Pool’ is an electrically-charged 7-track collection which reverberates with a certain energy; an underlying rebelliousness that seamlessly carries from one song to the next. Alongside their Karen O-esque debut single “Lonely,”, and their most recent release, the guitar driven, grab-you-by-the-ear “Ghost’, there are three new tracks on the EP.

Lead Track “Loudmouth,” – watch the official music video directed by Toronto-based collective, Kid. Studio HERE — is a spunky dance-floor anthem for the ages, “Bad Things” is an old school rocker and EP closer, “Joyride”, a sweet and soulful rock ballad that still manages to hold on to its edge and grit.

Formed in Los Angeles in 2018, RUSSO consists of singer/songwriter Cailin Russo on lead vocals, Tyler McCarthy on guitar, Hayley Brownell on drums and backing vocals and Sean Ritchie on bass. Currently in the midst of a West Coast tour, RUSSO have previously supported Jessie Ware as well as American singer and actress Madison Beer. 1st Single ‘Lie Like Me’ Out Now

24 year old twins Catherine and Lizzy, best known as Ward Thomas, release their eagerly anticipated new album ‘Restless Minds’ October 5th on WTW Music/Sony Music. Lead single ‘Lie Like Me’, available on all platforms from today, is a glorious, addictive slice of their unique sound.

Restless Minds is the follow up to their 2016 No.1 charting major label debut ‘Cartwheels’ and firmly establishes Ward Thomas as leading exponents of new wave country tinged pop. ‘Restless Minds’ is available to pre-order now.

“We never consciously tried to be country,” Lizzy says. “We love country but we’ve always set out to simply write songs that suit the content. The country artists we listen to know are the ones mixing it up and moving the genre on – Maren Morris and Kacey Musgraves in particular. But we also love Lorde, Cardi B, Haim and Julia Michaels.”

Imagine if you can an album that incorporates all those influences and you’ve got a taste of what ‘Restless Minds’ sounds like. A sprawling 15 song collection written in Nashville, London and Hampshire with previous collaborators Jessica Sharman, Rebekah Powell and Martin Terefe (Shawn Mendes) in addition to Ed Drewitt (Little Mix), Rachel Furner (Craig David) and Steve Robson (Paloma Faith). The album was produced in London by Martin Terefe and Joe Rubel (Ed Sheeran).

Lyrically the twins have tackled issues close to their hearts, including pertinent observations on social media, the women’s movement, what ‘the truth’ means in 2018 and mental health.

“As soon as we started writing the album, it became obvious what the themes would be,” says Catherine. “We were discussing current issues for us as twentysomethings, in a world that’s scary because it’s changing so quickly, but is also creating lots of exciting, new opportunities.”

New single ‘Lie Like Me’ is a biting indictment of lives faked online, accompanied by a deceptively sweet, flirtatiously upbeat musical track. It’s totally Ward Thomas circa 2018 and effortlessly showcases their confidence and swagger. Watch the stylish lyric video HERE.

Other highlights on this sonically bold album include ‘No Filter’, which like the rest of the album never stands still, all dreamy piano and percussive electronics and the harmonic twang of the super catchy  ‘Same Love’.

1. No Filter
2. Lie Like Me
3. One More Goodbye
4. It’s Not Just Me
5. Ain’t That Easy
6. Rather Be Breathing
7. Hopeless
8. Never Know
9. Same Love
10. Changing
11. No Fooling Me
12. I Believe In you
13. Little Girl Sorrow
14. Deepest You
15. This Too Will Pass

Max George is back and ready to launch his solo career with the infectious summer anthem ‘Barcelona’, out now and available everywhere via his own label SilverMAX.

The eagerly anticipated single is written and produced alongside BRIT Awards British Producer of the Year 2018 Steve Mac (Ed Sheeran) and Ed Drewett (One Direction) and is a bouncy slice of summer pop destined to soundtrack those long days on the beach that turn into nights!

Watch the music video featuring professional surfer, model and influencer Laura Crane HERE

“I’ve worked with a lot of amazing writers, some from The Wanted days, and I feel like I’ve settled in to a sound,” says Max. “It’s not a million miles away from what I’ve done before, but it’s fresher and sharper, sometimes more stripped back, maybe more experimental.”

As a member of The Wanted – or rather, the member of The Wanted, as their fans decreed – Max spent five years topping the charts, touring the world and sparring with 1D for awards. In Britain, three Top 10 albums, two of them platinum, spawned over a dozen hit singles. In the States, the quintet broke through with the 4x platinum, Top 3 single Glad You Came, then the best-selling song by a boy band in the digital era. Worldwide the band has over 700 million views on Youtube. Since then Max has been writing consistently and starred in the final season of Glee.

The multi award nominated Host of Live at the Apollo and Star of Stand up Central, Live at the Palladium, Cats Does Countdown, Mock the Week and sitcom Sunny D… Announces Second Leg Of UK Tour By Huge Popular Demand

Fresh from selling out the first leg of his 2018 UK tour (which included 5 dates at London’s Soho Theatre), Dane Baptiste takes his third smash hit show G.O.D. (Gold. Oil. Drugs.) on the road for a further 19 UK dates this autumn including a show at Up The Creek Comedy Club in Greenwich October 23rd, which will be recorded a live special.

The London born stand up made comedy history in 2014 as the first black British act to be nominated for an Edinburgh Comedy Award with his debut show Citizen Dane and his critically acclaimed second Reasonable Doubts that went on to tour the UK – both had multiple sell out shows.

Original, provocative and exceptionally crafted, G.O.D. explores our worldwide pursuit of wealth, power and pleasure. This show is not about GOD, it is a show about G.O.D; an abbreviation of the new things that humanity has come to uphold over everything else; namely Gold, Oil and Drugs. This is a show about the distractions and attractions of modern human life; and how the pursuit of the ‘Good Life’ can involve a lot of evil, vice and debauchery. But is that really a bad thing?

The G.O.D World Tour has already seen Dane head to Australia, New Zealand, Estonia, The Netherlands, Belgium, Latvia and Finland – with one thing uniting them all; audience laughter and critical acclaim:

Out Now on EGA Records

Following the release of her single ‘In Love’, an interpretation of the Anita Baker classic ‘Sweet Love’ in April, rising star Sharna Bass has returned with new single ‘Hit & Run’ out now on EGA Records.

The track is the third to be taken from her forthcoming EP ‘Beautiful Chaos’ out summer 2018. Produced by Will (Big Tobz, Nathan Sykes), the track is a blissed-out summer house anthem with a dancehall-infused groove and features smooth and sultry vocals from Sharna. Speaking of the track Sharna said ‘I wanted to create a song that is lyrically about heartbreak, whilst musically still being an absolute summer banger’.

Growing up in Kilburn, Sharna was spotted singing at just 13 by chart-topping act Clean Bandit at her local community run project Tabot Mix Centre, and two years later the band got in touch with Sharna to feature on their top 10 single ‘Extraordinary’. After the success of the single Sharna started working on her own new music, and following advice from her mentor and manager to channel her pain into the music, the writing and construction of her debut EP, now called “Beautiful Chaos”, flowed freely.

With a sell-out debut London headline show at The Scotch on her 21st birthday last month and early support from the likes of DJ Target, Mistajam, Trevor Nelson and Manny Norte. Sharna is definitely one to watch in 2018.

A/A Single ‘Crave/Same Mistakes’ Out Now Album ‘DOGVIOLET’ Out Aug 24th on Counter Records Plays The Dome Tufnell Park October 4th

Rising UK star LAUREL has today released two new singles ‘Crave’ and ‘Same Mistakes’, both taken from her incredible debut album ‘DOGVIOLET’, out August 24th on Counter Records. These two new tracks follow lead single ‘Lovesick’ and further showcase the sublime vocals and raw guitars of the evocative and effortless 12 track LP.

The two new singles reveal the stylistic range of ‘DOGVIOLET’, with the gritty, driving blues of ‘Same Mistakes’ in contrast to the cinematic and soaring ‘Crave’. First single ‘Lovesick’ set the tone for the album, with open, sparse production revealing LAUREL’s effortlessly emotive voice and the vintage warmth of her guitar playing. Other album highlights include spellbinding live favourite ‘Life Worth Living’, the infectiously wounded ‘Adored’, spikey punk pop hit ‘Same Mistakes’ and bitingly intense track ‘Sun King’ showcasing LAUREL’s mesmerising and intense vocals, seeing her singing ‘What is life, but a dream’.

Recorded without glossing over the imperfections and driven by her personal lyrics and stirring melodies, every track on the album was written and recorded in LAUREL’s home studio in East London. It was then taken to Gizzard Studios to be fed back through a reel-to-reel tape recorder, re-capturing the organic tone that is prevalent within her breathtaking live shows.

Titled after the flower, ‘DOGVIOLET’ is a deeply personal exploration of the bittersweet feeling of love. Laurel says ‘I wrote these songs at home often locking myself away for periods of time in order to capture the true mania that comes from love; although a beautiful feeling, it can often feel a lot uglier.’

Already receiving support from Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart, Apple Music, Spotify, The Guardian, Wonderland and I-D Magazine, as well as partnerships with Burberry, Ellesse, Levis and Vans, ‘DOGVIOLET’ follows LAUREL’s incredible ‘Park’ EP and her captivating Spotify Live EP, released in 2017.

Following a huge 2017, including a UK and European tour with Oh Wonder, two sold-out UK headline tours, and appearances at The Secret Garden Party, Live At Leeds, Outlines Festival and Golden Leaves Festival, LAUREL heads out on a UK and European tour this autumn.
