Jake Bugg today releases his superb new offering ‘All Kinds Of People’ – taken from his forthcoming sixth album A Modern Day Distraction, out September 20th on RCA Records.

A Clash and Jam-indebted mod rock burst, Jake’s new single addresses the need to open up and talk about the everyday hardships of ordinary people’s lives. “We all have our struggles,” says Jake. “In British culture, we don’t really talk to anyone about that. You need to talk about these things with the people you love. Produced by Metrophonic at Metrophonic Studios in London, Jake returns to his roots on the rock-driven A Modern Day Distraction – a record that turns up the noise while shining a light on the injustice he’s seen dealt to the family and friends he grew up with. Fiery and engaged, the record was born out of a frustration of societal inequality. Bugg found that a time had come when he just couldn’t look away. “People might say ‘What do you know?’ or ‘Just stick to music’. I’ve got a bit of money, but we all know the people this affects. I was just writing it because it was the way I felt. It pisses me off – especially in a country like ours where we have the means and funds to take care of the people suffering the most, but we choose not to.”

Now 12 years and six albums since he emerged with his streetwise and spritely, Mercury-nominated, chart-topping, self-titled debut, one might forget he was just 18 at the time. He’s put in the hours and achieved so much, but he’s only 30 and still seeing the front rows of his shows getting younger.

Ray LaMontagne – the celebrated Grammy award winning singer-songwriter – today unveils a new single, “Long Way Home” listen here. 

The track, releasing via the highly independent artist’s newly created label Liula Records, is the second taken from LaMontagne’s forthcoming, highly anticipated studio album, Long Way Home, out August 16 – preorder the album here. 

“Long Way Home”, the album’s title track, is a somber, bittersweet rumination on times past. LaMontagne sings, “Summertime, summertime / Said goodbye at the garden wall /  From the house I can hear my momma callin’ /  Winter come to us all my friend / Just as every childhood has an end,” as flashes of warm memories float by. 

The previous single, “Step Into Your Power”, released early this month and is the fastest moving track of LaMontagne’s in the last ten years. Accompanied by a stop-motion music video animated by his son Tobias, the foot-tapping, nostalgia laden track features choral backing vocals from The Secret Sisters and was praised by Atwood as “a gosh darned groove […] easygoing and uplifting, yet smooth and relaxing.” 

The core of Long Way Home reverberates deep into LaMontagne’s youth – at 21-years-old, in a small club in Minneapolis, he recalls seeing Townes Van Zandt perform live. A line from “To Live Is To Fly” has stuck with him ever since; Van Zandt sang, “When here you been is good an gone, all you keep is the getting there.” 

LaMontagne reflects, “Thirty years later it occurs to me that every song on Long Way Home is in one way or another honoring the journey. The languorous days of youth and innocence. The countless battles of adulthood, some won, more often lost. It’s been a long hard road, and I wouldn’t change a minute. It took me nine songs to express what Townes managed to say in one line. I guess I still got a lot to learn.”

LaMontagne has spent the past two decades carving a singular space for himself in modern music. In a career that has seen overflowing critical acclaim, he’s opted out of the spotlight and its accompanying celebrity in the remote hills of Western Massachusetts. The New York Times accounts, “Visiting Ray LaMontagne is like going back to another century.” His distinctive voice, described by Rolling Stone as an “impeccably weathered tenor croon”, continues to serve as a conduit for era-defining melodies and songwriting. Across eight studio albums, LaMontagne has let his songs and story speak for themselves, ringing a deep chord in the American subconscious. As has come to be expected through his extensive and awarded discography, LaMontagne delivers yet again on record nine with a cohesive, impressive effort.

Produced in tandem with Seth Kauffman (Floating Action, Angel Olsen, Lana Del Ray), Long Way Home’s nine moving tracks recall the folk-rock explosion of the early seventies, while aptly sitting among the modern Americana revival that LaMontagne was integral in fueling. Recorded over the course of a few weeks in his home studio, LaMontagne tapped both long-time and new collaborators across the record – The Secret Sisters provide backing vocals on the first three tracks, while the album was engineered and mixed by the team of LaMontagne, Kauffman, and Ariel Bernstein. 

The album artwork furthers that LaMontagne is cracking the window open to his audience: the piece, a woodblock print by artist Barbara S. Beck, hangs above LaMontagne’s desk where he’s written most of his albums. Long Way Home is LaMontagne’s first full-length effort since 2020’s MONOVISION, a stripped back solo-recording heralded by American Songwriter as “soothing, but never clichéd warmth in retro-style.”

Acclaimed folk singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne has released eight studio albums since his 2004 debut, Trouble, which is certified RIAA Platinum. 2006’s Till the Sun Turns Black and 2008’s Gossip in the Grain saw RIAA Gold certifications. LaMontagne received two Grammy nominations and won the award for Best Contemporary Folk Album for God Willin’ and the Creek Don’t Rise. In 2010 he began recording as Ray LaMontagne and the Pariah Dogs. For his debut album, LaMontagne won four awards, including three Boston Music Awards (Best Male Singer/Songwriter, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year) and an XM Nation Music Award for Acoustic Rock Artist of the Year. LaMontagne has received a nomination from the Pollstar Concert Industry Awards for Best New Touring Artist, the BRIT Awards for International Breakthrough Act, the MOJO Awards for Best New Act, and was given the title of Best Voice in 2006 by Esquire.

Ahead of her debut performance at Glastonbury this weekend, Elles Bailey has released new single ‘Ballad Of A Broken Dream,’ the latest single from her forthcoming album Beneath The Neon Glow, which comes August 9th on Cooking Vinyl Records.

A punchy, rock’n blues baller,‘Ballad Of A Broken Dream’ looks at the struggles of being a musician. “There is no denying the link between musicians and mental health and the toil that this chosen path can take on a creative,” Elles says of the single. “The track follows the story of a tortured artist who, though undeniably exceedingly talented, has ended his career playing dive bars where no one knows his name. Following a raucous run of UK dates last month, including London’s Wide Awake Festival, Being Dead — the Austin, TX-based duo consisting of Falcon Bitch and Shmoofy — announces its new album, EELS, out September 27th on Bayonet. Alongside the announcement comes lead single ‘Firefighters,’ and an autumn US headline run. 

The album’s first taste, ‘Firefighters,’ is a pummeling, distorted garage rock ripper, accompanied by a URZULKA directed video, which “came together through a group hallucination.” The band says of the track, “we love marbles and outdoor play and decided to get it on video for y’all. Being Dead’s records are mosaics, technicolor incantations, each song its own self-contained little universe. And while the dreamlike EELS probes further into the depths of the duo Being Dead’s psyche, it is, most importantly, a 16-track record that is genuinely unpredictable from one track to the next. It’s a joyous and unexpected trip helmed by two true-blue freak bitch besties holed up in a lil’ house in the heart of Austin, Texas. 

When Horses Would Run, Being Dead’s “glorious and timeless” (Gorilla vs. Bear) debut record released in 2023, took years to release. The final product was excellent and expertly polished, at odds with the live rowdiness they’d cultivated a reputation for throughout Austin and beyond across seven years of being a band. For the next one, they knew they’d have to do things differently. They decamped to Los Angeles for two weeks to record with GRAMMY-winning producer John Congleton, writing songs for the record until days before they left. The radical shift in process was welcome – a good balance and a challenge, Congleton helping them find new ways to work and helping peel back the layers on the core of their songwriting. Being Dead has grown from a duo to a trio live, including bassist Nicole Roman-Johnston, who also co-wrote songs with the band for the record.

The resulting EELS is a darker record, tapped more into the devilishness within. It’s a more raucous, rougher ride sonically. There’s heartbreak, excitement, enchantment, dancing – we move through it all at a high-octane pace. Falcon Bitch and Smoofy never want to do the same thing twice on any song, and they don’t. 

There are a number of different origin stories for Being Dead floating around on the internet, most of which are immortalized in various press pieces they’ve done across the last seven years of being a band, and there will likely be more. Falcon Bitch and Smoofy deliver each story with a wink, inviting you in on the joke. Maybe they were actually born from a giant egg left in a meteoric crater, or they’re undercover on earth from an alien universe. Something about their music suggests it’s a dispatch from both the future and the past – vocal harmonies that sound like they’re reverberating in a medieval church to surfy guitar lines, weirdo-punky cacophonies erupting into chaos. There’s the sense that these are two people who are strangers to all that is banal – there is always fun to be had, a little mischievous magic waiting around the corner, if you know how to find or make it.

Kasabian today release a timeless heartbreaker in the highly addictive new single ‘Darkest Lullaby’. Continuing the band’s riotous creative joy and instinctive live energy, ‘Darkest Lullaby’ captures the emotions of a story of heartbreak between two crazed lovers. Directed by director duo Bedroom (The 1975, Arlo Parks), the video pays homage to the unique movie trailers of the grind-house B movies of the 70s and stars the band as lead characters in their own film. The Directors added – “Imagine stumbling across the abandoned film reels of a long-forgotten movie that never reached completion”. “Those reels feature a jaded private detective’s descent into the depths of a dangerous assignment swimming with blood thirsty mob goons, psychoactive torture and all the inglorious hazards of the grindhouse/b-movie legacy. This was the concept behind the music video, one that couldn’t be possible without the enthusiasm of the band who threw themselves effortlessly into their roles!”

Co-produced by Serge and Mark Ralph (Zara Larsson, Clean Bandit, Rudimental), the follow up to 2022’s #1 album The Alchemist’s Euphoria, Happenings is 10 quick, sharp, visceral doses of fresh heavy hitters, drawing inspiration from the anything-goes art performance late-1950s. Veering between the dance floor to the mosh pit, tracks over three minutes were outlawed (well nearly), and with those 10 tracks clocking up to 26 minutes (“A minute shorter than the Ramones debut”), Happenings is not only an album that never overstays its welcome, but leaves listeners craving more.

Sense was the band’s second studio record, originally released in 1992. Having played every continent in the physical world, Metallica sets its sights on new frontiers with events across Fortnite this month.

Metallica becomes the first band to take centre stage across all Fortnite experiences, with Metallica-themed gameplay coming to Fortnite Festival, Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing and more starting tomorrow, June 13. Plus, as part of an all new music experience inside of Fortnite, Metallica: Fuel. Fire. Fury. will bring a series of in-game concert performances to players only on June 22 and June 23.

Completely customised and built from the ground up using Unreal Editor for Fortnite by technology studio Magnopus, Metallica: Fuel. Fire. Fury. is a brand-new playable concert that will journey through six of Metallica’s fan-favourite songs with themed gameplay that complements the intensity of a Metallica live show. This immersive music experience will have six different showtimes across two days:

James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo of Metallica are the icons of Fortnite Festival Season 4, where fans can shred along with Metallica on classics including “Enter Sandman,” “Ride the Lightning,” and “Master of Puppets.”

Metallica’s not just visiting Fortnite to perform—they’re here to battle. This new season of Fortnite Festival introduces the Battle Stage, a new competitive way to play the rhythm music game, and will be available even after the Metallica collaboration concludes.

Fortnite Festival’s Battle Stage will see 16 players in a match, all will play from the same four-song setlist, and one will emerge victorious.
