As digital albums and CDs – Friday, October 27th

Both Albums Mark Landmark Anniversaries – EVERGREENS celebrates Barbra Streisand’s 60 Years with Columbia Records and YENTL commemorates 40 years since the release of the Oscar-winning soundtrack Yentl

“Evergreen (Love Theme From A Star Is Born) – 2023 Mix” Available on All DSPs Today Link Here

Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, are pleased to announce the digital and CD release of TWO upcoming Barbra Streisand projects, EVERGREENS:  Celebrating Six Decades on Columbia Records and YENTL:  40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, both available on Friday, October 27. These releases come just days before the highly anticipated release of Barbra Streisand’s memoir, My Name is Barbra, which is available on November 7.

Available digitally and on CD, EVERGREENS:  Celebrating Six Decades on Columbia Records and YENTL:  Deluxe 40th Anniversary Edition may be pre-ordered HERE and HERE.

Fans can get a first preview of EVERGREENS when Barbra’s Grammy and Oscar winning recording of “Evergreen (Love Theme from A Star is Born)” – the 2023 Mix is released as an Instant Grat track through all DSPs on September 8. This is a recording featuring Barbra’s classic vocals with a brand-new arrangement. Listen HERE. The video will be released on September 22.

Additionally, fans can hear the first previously unreleased track from the YENTL soundtrack, “Papa, Can You Hear Me?” on October 6. This recording, long stored in Streisand’s music vault, is an alternate version of the Oscar nominated song, produced by Phil Ramone and arranged by Dave Grusin.

EVERGREENS celebrates Streisand’s 60th anniversary as a Columbia artist. The album features 22 songs, personally selected by Barbra as some of her favorite recordings throughout her career. None of these tracks have appeared on previous Streisand compilations before.  TARGET will offer an exclusive EVERGREENS on pink vinyl.

The songs chosen for EVERGREENS have nothing to do with statistics or certifications. Instead, they were chosen by Barbra to exemplify her emotional connection to these melodies and lyrics – each holding a special place in her heart and memory.

EVERGREENS: Celebrating Six Decades on Columbia Records commemorates the unparalleled career of a once-in-a-lifetime artist, who has literally conquered every entertainment medium – the nightclub, concert, Broadway, to the big screen, small screen, and of course, the recording studio.

YENTL : 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition commemorates the 40th anniversary of the release of the Oscar-winning soundtrack to Yentl. The album features all songs from the original album, plus a bonus disc of previously unreleased gems from the vault.

YENTL will be offered on vinyl as a Barnes & Noble exclusive on 2 discs.  Disc one features the original Yentl soundtrack, and disc 2 features 15 tracks that Barbra recorded as demos or alternate versions. The 10 demos were recorded in her living room on a stereo cassette deck, with Barbra narrating the introduction to each track. They feature Barbra accompanied only by Michel Legrand on piano.

The YENTL soundtrack is a wonder to behold. Legrand’s melodies are lush and compelling, articulating emotions that words alone cannot express. The Bergmans’ lyrics convey Yentl’s travails with wisdom, humor, and compassion. Barbra’s vocal performances are among the finest she ever committed to tape.

The living room demos featured on Disc Two, recorded on a stereo cassette deck, are nothing short of a revelation. Barba’s voice, accompanied only by Legrand’s piano, is stunning. This is Streisand au naturel. Without their elaborate orchestrations, the songs are delivered with an intimacy revealing their flawless construction. Like peering into the inner workings of a fine watch to study the gears, one gets a sense of how precisely the words and music are synchronized, and how Barbra imbues each with layers of meaning.

Both albums were supervised and feature extensive liner notes by Jay Landers, Streisand’s long-time A&R man and Executive Producer.

2024 World Tour Includes 6 UK Arena Dates
Tickets On Sale Friday, 15th September HERE

Keane release a special remastered version of ‘Hopes and Fears’, undoubtedly one of the best debut albums ever, on May 10th 2024 exactly 20 years after its initial release.

On the same day, the band play London’s 02 Arena as part of a world tour that kicks off April 1st in Mexico City before reaching Europe and the UK. Their US tour in September includes prestigious dates at LA’s Greek Theatre, Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and New York City’s Radio City Music Hall.

‘Hopes and Fears’ was a landmark album for Keane and has set all kinds of records in the process. It’s one of the best selling albums in UK chart history having sold over 2.5 million in the UK in its first year, and a million in the USA propelled by their absolutely classic song ‘Somewhere Only We Know’. ‘Hopes and Fears’ is 9x platinum in the UK, a remarkable achievement. The album has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

Keane emerged alongside a new vanguard of bands that would change the shape of music: Snow Patrol, Scissor sisters, the Killers and Coldplay. They were the first to create a sound solely revolving around keyboards which enhanced the emotional pull of their songs. ‘Everybody’s Changing’ from ‘Hopes and Fears’ became a fan favourite and a top five hit.

In 2004 Keane were the biggest selling British artist in the UK. The following year they won two BRIT Awards: Best British Album for ‘Hopes and Fears’ and British Breakthrough act award as voted for by Radio 1 listeners.

‘Somewhere Only We Know’ has enjoyed a recent revival on Tik Tok going viral in Indonesia which lit the spark for a global renaissance of the track which is currently

clocking up two million Spotify streams a day, and in the past 12 months has become Island Records’ biggest selling single. In total it has been streamed over a billion times.

Next year’s tour will celebrate Keane’s acclaimed body of work from their imperious debut ‘Hopes and Fears’ through to their 2019 studio album ‘Cause and Effect’

Lead singer Tom Chaplin says; “I remember standing by that amazing old mixing desk at Heliocentric Studios where we made Hopes and Fears, listening to an early mix of Somewhere Only We Know. I had this feeling that we’d come up with something that had an extra bit of magic. Making music is so often a process full of doubt…but on this occasion there was something undeniable about what we’d created. Clearly a lot of people felt the same when the album came out!”

Founding band member and songwriter Tim Rice-Oxley said: When I think about these songs, I still picture us playing them in little rooms in pubs around the UK. I remember how exciting it was watching the crowds start to grow. Those songs opened the door to another dimension for us; everything that has happened in our lives since then was born out of that moment. It’s an incredible privilege for us that people are still listening after all this time.

Keane play the following UK & Irish dates: Support comes from The Sherlocks & The Lathums. Tickets on general sale September 15th HERE.

TAKEN FROM FORTHCOMING ALBUM DIRT BUYER II

OUT OCTOBER 20TH VIA BAYONET RECORDS

Joe Sutkowski aka Dirt Buyer shares “Gathering Logs”, the third single off his forthcoming album Dirt Buyer II out October 20 via Bayonet Records. Watch the video directed by Luke LeCount HERE.

“This was one of the first songs I wrote after moving to New York,“ Joe said of the track. “I’d spent a lot of time mulling over the things that had happened in my life prior to the move and by this time I hadn’t really processed any of my family trauma that had been plaguing me for the better part of my life, so a lot of the songs that I wrote during this time were written through the lens of self-discovery, uncertainty, and resentment. ‘Gathering Logs’ is a transmogrified outline of my experience living with a narcissistic, alcoholic parent as much as it’s a meditation on leaving space to have empathy for yourself.”

“Gathering Logs” follows “Fentanyl,” the album’s centrepiece and “On & On”.

Dirt Buyer’s new album is a documentation of making it to the other side.  Sutkowski grew up in New Jersey, and although he lives in Brooklyn now, he remains “an emo kid at heart,” garnering inspiration from bands like My Chemical Romance and Muse, the latter of whose theatrical, dramatic performances inspired the band’s own vocal-forward, soaring takes.  Initially working together as a duo while Sutkowski and Ruben Radlauer (Model/Actriz) were at school in Berklee, the band’s self-titled 2019 debut album was recorded on an IPhone in their practice room on just drums and guitar, and the quietly striking, nuanced stylings earned them accolades far beyond the “fake record label” the two made up to originally release their music.

Dirt Buyer II was recorded in February 2020, and represents a foray into heavier material that marks a deeper shift for the band.  Now working as a trio, Sutkowski is flanked by Tristan Allen on bass and Mike Costa on drums, a fellow Berklee grad who cut his teeth playing in bands across Boston including past collaborations with Sutkowski.  Half-recorded while the band was on tour with Surf Curse, the record finds Sutkowski reaching out for places, people and beliefs to ground him.

Sutkowksi grapples with loss throughout the record, often mourning relationships that have yet to come to pass (“Sand”) and questioning the fragility of time.  “How the leaves have changed,” he intones, repeating the phrase throughout the album.  Three years on, Dirt Buyer II is an artifact of a time that is still preserved through the headrush of peak memory; the magnitude of high highs and low lows that are both addictive and transformative. “If heavy’s what you wanted / heavy’s what you’re gettin’ / heavy’s what you needed, believe me now / if change is what you wanted / change is what you’re gettin,” he sings on “Heavy,” ironically one of the catchiest tracks on Dirt Buyer II.  But with that comes the opportunity to see life for what it’s worth: “I’m fortunate to have a thing that’s an outlet but also an escape.”

Half-recorded in his mother and uncle’s upstate house where he turned the living room into a studio, he contemplates the beauty and disaster around him—all refracted through visceral visual imagery of how the physical earth meets the unknown to converge in something greater than ourselves. “This is all a living chronicle of all I want to do, which is feel good and be happy,” he admits. “I’m a completely different person now – a better version of myself.”  Processing the past, Sutkowksi has emerged with newfound belief, fully intact and with a new path forward to the future.

Stunning Adaptation Of Snow Patrol’s ‘Run’ – Out Now

Currently Touring The UK & Plays London Palladium
September 25th

Five years since the release of his last, Silver-certified, Top 2-charting solo album As Time Goes By, Britain’s leading tenor, Alfie Boe, returns with his brand new album Open Arms – The Symphonic Songbook – out October 27th on BMG.

Alfie’s homage to rock, the album sees the tenor rework versions of rock’s finest tracks such as Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’, Metallica’s ‘Nothing Else Matters’, Bryan Adams’ ‘Summer of ‘69, & many more, into simply spectacular symphonic masterpieces.

The album’s first offering is a mesmerising adaptation of Snow Patrol’s iconic single ‘Run – listen here.

The foundations of this album go deep, back to over 20 years ago. Alfie was on Broadway, appearing in Oscar-winning film director Baz Luhrmann’s 2002 revival of La Bohème.

Baz was opening up this vast world for me to venture into,” he remembers. “And I found that the love of music for me had broadened, from classical to rock and contemporary. I’d always been into my rock music. But I thought: this is a great opportunity for me to show people the similarity between classic rock and classical music, and the structure of them, and how the two worlds are so close.”

Alfie also releases his memoir, Face The Music: My Story – out September 7th via Penguin Spotlight.

Between late 2022 and early 2023 Alfie decamped from his new home to Metropolis Studios in Chiswick. The producer: the legendary Al Clay, a man who, having collaborated with everyone from Hans Zimmer to Del Amitri via the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack, had his feet in both the rock and the classical words. The players: a “scratch” orchestra assembled by Clay – a group of players unbound by tradition or heritage.

A decorated career that’s lasted 30 years, Alfie is one of the best-loved vocalists of his generation and a hugely successful, multi-platinum selling artist. He has triumphed on theatre stages and in concert halls around the world and has two recent UK #1 albums under his belt for albums ‘Together’ and ‘Together Again’, made with his great friend Michael Ball. The duo also won two Classic BRIT Awards earlier this year for ‘Best Album’ and ‘Group of the Year’.

His exceptional voice has made him Britain’s most popular and biggest-selling tenor. The Tony Award winner has conquered the world’s greatest opera stages and arenas and led the cast of Les Misérables. He stole the show at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace, and performed at the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations at Windsor Castle. Most recently the public saw another side to Alfie when he starred on BBC1’s Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof, which involved taking on various challenges in sub-zero temperatures. In warmer climes, Alfie then made a surprise cameo appearance on ITV’s BAFTA-winning dating series Love Island, serenading two contestants, one of whom was moved to tears by his singing, whilst viewers up and down the country praised Boe’s passionate performance.

Kicking off at the end of last month, Alfie is bringing his electric live show to cities and towns across the country, and will stop in the capital for a special show at the London Palladium on September 25th. Tickets can be bought here.

Alfie is an artist who has effortlessly broken boundaries via his love of music – and with this brand new record, he continues to do so.

AVAILABLE IN 8LP SUPER DELUXE, 5CD SUPER DELUXE, 1LP + 10”, 2CD DELUXE, & DIGITAL

PRE-ORDER/PRE-SAVE HERE

To say that Nirvana‘s third and ultimately final studio album In Utero was one of the most impactful records of the modern era would be an understatement. Originally released September 21, 1993, In Utero‘s unadorned sonic rawness was received by critics and fans with equal measures of shock and elation, as Steve Albini‘s recording laid bare every primal nuance of the most confrontational yet vulnerable material Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl would ever record. And with its 1991 predecessor Nevermind having sold some 30 million copies and causing a seismic pop cultural shift, In Utero was essentially the first record Nirvana would make with any expectations from the public.  So from the opening quasi-shamble melodics of “Serve The Servants” through the bittersweet closing strains of “All Apologies,” In Utero was the sound of the most incredible yet conflicted musical force of the era at the peak of its powers coming to terms with a generational spokes-band mantle they’d never seen coming—and ultimately surmounting these struggles to make the record they needed to make.

In Utero went on to mark Nirvana’s first #1 debut on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified 6x platinum in the United States.

Geffen/UMe commemorates the 30th anniversary of In Utero with several multi-format reissues, arriving on October 27, 2023. Configurations include a limited-edition 8LP Super Deluxe box set, 5CD Super Deluxe box set, 1 LP + 10” edition, 2CD Deluxe edition, and a Digital Super Deluxe edition.

Pre-order/Pre-save Nirvana – In Utero: 30th Anniversary HERE.

The three Super Deluxe Edition releases comprise a total of 72 tracks with 53 previously unreleased tracks. Among the unreleased material, two full In Utero-era concerts, namely Live In Los Angeles (1993) and the band’s final Seattle performance, Live In Seattle (1994), are included in addition to six bonus live tracks from Rome, Springfield, and New York. Seattle producer and engineer Jack Endino—who helmed the band’s 1988 debut Bleach—reconstructed the live tracks from stereo soundboard tapes for this year’s reissue. Additionally, In Utero’s original twelve songs, along with five bonus tracks and B-sides, have been newly remastered from the original analog master stereo tapes by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Services—who assisted Albini as the only other engineer at the original sessions.

Check out the full tracklisting below.

The physical Super Deluxe Edition box sets also boast a removable front-cover acrylic panel with the album’s iconic Angel; a 48-page hardcover book with unreleased photos; a 20-page newly designed fanzine; a Los Angeles tour poster lithograph by hot rod artist Coop; replicas of the 1993 record store promo Angel mobile, three gig fliers, two ticket stubs for Los Angeles and Seattle, an All-Access tour laminate, and four cloth sticky tour backstage passes: Press, Photo, After Show, and Local Crew.

Available exclusively at online stores at uDiscovermusic.com and SoundofVinyl.com and limited to 3000 units worldwide, fans who buy either Super Deluxe Edition will receive a Nirvana acrylic stand to display their angel-on-acrylic panel included in both boxset configurations.

Nirvana recorded In Utero over the course of six days in February 1993 at Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, MN with Albini. Retrospectively, Pitchfork rated it a rare perfect score of “10.0” and wrote, In Utero is the sort of painful shock that, paradoxically, reinstills the empowering sensation of feeling alive. Upon its arrival back in 1993, David Fricke wrote in Rolling Stone, “In Utero is a lot of things—brilliant, corrosive, enraged and thoughtful, most of them all at once. But more than anything, it’s a triumph of the will.

Be on the lookout for more news about In Utero: 30TH Anniversary Edition very soon.

ABOUT NIRVANA:

Formed by friends Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic, Nirvana emerged from Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. The band’s full-length debut Bleach was recorded in 30 hours for $606.17 and released in 1988 on Sub Pop, soon becoming the biggest seller in the label’s history. Joined by drummer Dave Grohl, the trio delivered Nevermind in 1991, peaking at #1 on the Billboard 200, going RIAA Diamond in the United States, and moving over 30 million copies worldwide as “one of the best-selling albums of all-time, according to Soundscan. The 1993 follow-up In Utero bowed at #1 on the Billboard 200 and has been certified platinum in 10 countries and gold in 9 more. The Nirvana catalog is also highlighted in the U.S. by the newly Diamond-certified single “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” platinum Incesticide [1992], 8x-platinum MTV Unplugged in New York [1994], and platinum From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah [1996]. Nirvana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame® during its first year of eligibility in 2014. Beyond selling a total of 75 million records globally, the band has collected 1 American Music Award, 1 BRIT Award, 7 MTV VMA Awards, and 2 GRAMMY® Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY® Award in 2023. Standing out as one of the most-streamed rock bands of the modern era, Nirvana’s music has endured through generations and eras at an unmatched level of influence.

LISTEN HERE

Announce UK November Headline Tour
Includes London, Garage – November 17th

“A dose of helter-skelter outlaw energy from two of the best in the biz”Clash Magazine
“A ram-jam barrage of 50s rock ‘n’ roll mania, shot through with punk venom”Classic Rock

“A breath of fresh air…reminds me of Motorhead. What the world needs now!”Chrissie Hynde

His Lordship, one of the most explosive and exciting live acts to emerge from the UK in years, come flying out of the traps with the announcement of their debut self-titled album, out January 12th, 2024 – produced by David Wrench and Tchad Blake (Arctic Monkeys, Black Keys).

A tour de force of twelve frenetic, frenzied, rapturous tracks, the album will also include their latest offering ‘Jackie Works For The NHS – a monster garage rock anthem with a chorus that will blow the roof off venues across the country when they take to the road in November. Totalling  seven shows, the tour will conclude in what will be a simply wild night in the capital at London’s Garage on November 17th.

In a statement of defiance, the band declare; “His lordship are primed and fuelled ready to unleash deafening mayhem around the UK this November. Prepare yourself to be transported to a state of mind melting Rock’n’Roll bliss ahead of the self-titled debut record release next year.”

A maximum rock’n’roll trio conceived during lockdown to blow the cobwebs away and remind us of what music has been missing, the band are made up of the powerhouse duo of James Walbourne (The Pretenders, The Pogues, The Rails) and Kristoffer Sonne (Chrissie Hynde, Willie Nelson), the band’s first single ‘All Cranked Up’ hit the 6 Music B-List last summer, and today sees the release of its follow up ‘Buzzkill’ – an angular, twisted ear worm produced by David Wrench (Courtney Barnett, XX, Frank Ocean) listen here.

His Lordship sold out their debut UK tour in July, and then joined Jason Isbell on a sell out European tour culminating with a roof raising show at London’s Eventim Apollo. To coincide with the new single the band headed out on their biggest headline tour to date, taking in 12 cities, including a sold-out headline show at London’s Lafayette in April this year.

12″ vinyl singles collector’s edition box set series continues

Out 6th October 2023

Sony Music Entertainment will continue the Depeche Mode 12″ vinyl singles project with the release of Delta Machine | The 12″ Singles on 6 October 2023.

Delta Machine | The 12″ Singles, a collector’s edition deluxe box set, contains six 12″ vinyl discs spotlighting the singles featured on Delta Machine, Depeche Mode’s 13th studio album (and first for Columbia Records). Originally released on Mute/Columbia in March 2013, Delta Machine presented fans with Heaven (released as the album’s lead single in January 2013), Soothe My Soul (released May 2013) and Should Be Higher (released October 2013).

The Delta Machine | The 12″ Singles box set includes replicas of the original 12″ single releases plus three newly compiled discs featuring remixes, dub mixes, instrumental versions, live sessions and radio mixes of the singles as well as the bonus track “Goodbye (Gesaffelstein Remix).”

Depeche Mode recorded their Delta Machine album in 2012 at Sound Design in Santa Barbara, California and Jungle City in New York, working for the third time with producer Ben Hillier, who’d helmed the group’s two previous studio albums: 2005’s Playing The Angel and 2009’s Sounds Of The Universe. Delta Machine was mixed by the legendary audio engineer Flood, who’d worked with DM on Violator (1990) and Songs of Faith and Devotion (1993). Following the album’s release, Depeche Mode launched the Delta Machine Tour, which opened in Nice, France, on 4 May 2013, and concluded in Moscow on 7 March 2014.

Like many of the band’s previous releases, Delta Machine expanded Depeche Mode’s vision and repertoire while continuing their tradition of issuing monumental 12″ singles to supplement and complement their albums.

From their earliest days as a band, Depeche Mode have championed 12″ vinyl, embracing the format’s singular power and potential for innovation. The 12″ single allowed the band to explore new sonic possibilities while the tactile real-world beauty of physical packaging gave Depeche Mode room to develop their consistently sophisticated and commanding design aesthetic. Depeche Mode have used their singles discography as a means of offering fans the opportunity to enjoy left field remixes, rare B-sides, standout concert performances and other exclusive delights.

Sony Music Entertainment released the first two box sets in the Depeche Mode 12″ singles series–Speak & Spell | The Singles and A Broken Frame | The Singles–in August 2018 with the second batch–Construction Time Again | The 12″ Singles and Some Great Reward | The 12″ Singles–arriving in December 2018. SME released Depeche Mode’s Black Celebration | The 12″ Singles and Music For The Masses | The 12″ Singles on 31 May 2019. 2020 saw the release of Violator | The 12″ Singles in July and Songs Of Faith And Devotion | The 12″ Singles in October. The ninth collection in the series, Ultra | The 12″ Singles was released on 27 September 2021 with the tenth volume, Exciter | The 12″ Singles, arriving on 10 June 2022. The 11th volume in the series, Playing The Angel | The 12″ Singles, was released in November 2022. 2023 has seen the release of Sounds Of The Universe | The 12″ Singles in August with Delta Machine | The 12″ Singles following in September.

Each box set in the series contains the singles from an individual Depeche Mode album pressed on audiophile-quality 12″ vinyl. The artwork for the exterior of each of the box sets draws on iconography inspired by the original releases, while the vinyl sleeves themselves feature the original single artwork.

Delta Machine | The 12″ Singles is the chronological 13th volume in SME’s Depeche Mode 12″ Singles Series with plans to release a Spirit box set in a similar deluxe audio-grade collector’s edition.

Play Reading & Leeds Festival Main Stage This Weekend

Just back from playing to a massive crowd at Summer Sonic Festival in Japan and a raucous debut sold-out tour in Australia, as well as two huge sold-out hometown shows playing to 8,000 people at Glasgow’s SWG3 last month, The Snuts close the summer with their sun drenched anthem ‘Dreams’. The track is the second single the band have released since their acclaimed 2022 sophomore album Burn The Empire. Listen to ‘Dreams’ HERE.

Rapturously opening their sets at SWG3 in July, ‘Dreams’ is The Snuts at their vibrant best; Infectious, soaked in sunshine and packed to the brim with lead singer Jack Cochrane’s singalong hooks. Produced by Jack and longtime collaborator Scotty Anderson at Watercolour Music in Fort William and Magic Box in Dundee, the track sees the band reuniting with WL collaborator Tony Hoffer (Beck, Depeche Mode, Phoenix) on mixing duties.

Set to become a mainstay across festival stages around the world, Jack says of the track “’Dreams’ is a feel good track, which celebrates the feeling of punching way above your weight, when life feels almost too good to be true.”

The Snuts are well and truly into their stride. With chart-topping and top 3 albums under their belts, songs that attack subjects affecting the youth of today, and an arsenal of adoring fans up and down the country, these four lads from Whitburn, West Lothian, are well on their way to being one of the most vital bands of recent years.

Currently in the studio working on the followup to Burn The Empire, The Snuts return to the main stage at Reading & Leeds Festivals this weekend.

UK LIVE DATES
AUGUST

Fri 25th Leeds Festival 2023

Sun 27th Reading Festival 2023

The Snuts are Jack Cochrane, Callum ‘29’ Wilson, Joe McGillveray and Jordan ‘Joko’ Mackay.

Title Track Out Today – ANIMATED VIDEO HERE

Six years since the release of their critically-acclaimed, Top 4-charting The Punishment Of Luxury, synth pioneers Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) return with their brand new studio album Bauhaus Staircase – out October 27th.

The album’s first offering is the title track, which serves as a nod both to Andy McCluskey’s love of the Bauhaus era & the power of protest art. It’s available today – Watch the animated video HERE.

I am a huge lover of visual arts, especially mid 20th century movements,” Andy comments. “The song is a metaphor for strength and artist passion in the face of criticism and adversity. When times are hard, there is a tendency for Governments to look at cutting funding for creativity, just at the moment when the arts are most needed to nourish our souls. It seems appropriate that the song and its eponymous album were created during Covid Lockdown.”

It arrives as the band’s most explicitly political record and the crowning achievement of their desire to be both Stockhausen and Abba – born from the impetus to kickstart new explorations during lockdown when, as Andy McCluskey admits: “I rediscovered the creative power of total boredom.”

Predominantly written, recorded, and mixed by both McCluskey & Paul Humphreys (who has recently become a second-time father), Bauhaus Staircase’s other main external influence was David Watts, mainly known as a rock producer who helmed Sheffield band The Reytons’ recent No 1 album and mixed two tracks on the new OMD record.

Ranging from the beautiful film noir ballad of ‘Veruschka’, to ‘Anthropocene’ – a term for the current epoch in Earth’s evolution, to the sinister ‘Evolution Of Species’, and the hectic ‘Kleptocracy’ – OMD’s greatest straight-up protest song – the new album is a broad, electronic, sonic masterpiece that lyrically tackles the topics of the future. The record closes on ‘Healing’ – a moment of reflective calm and a rare OMD co-write, with lyrics by McCluskey’s friend, Liverpool singer-songwriter Caroline England, and production from ATOM TM.

OMD have sold an astonishing 25 million singles and 15 million albums, which has established them as electronic synthesiser pioneers and one of Britain’s best-loved pop groups. Their 13 albums include reissued ‘Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark’ (1980), ‘Organisation’ (1980), ‘Architecture & Morality’ (1981) and ‘Dazzle Ships’ (1983).

By rights, OMD should be in semi-retirement, performing classics like Enola Gay and Maid Of Orleans on the nostalgia festival circuit like so many peers. Instead, they’ve created a landmark album worthy of their finest work. If real life meant OMD were happy to get help, Bauhaus Staircase remains unmistakably the work of a duo who are still perfectly in sync 45 years after their first gig at legendary Liverpool club Eric’s.

“I’m very happy with what we’ve done on this record,” McCluskey summarises. “I’m comfortable if this is OMD’s last statement.”

Out October 13th via Loma Vista Recordings

Presented as Three Distinct Acts

Double Album Delivers Nine New Songs

Listen to Act I: Topanga Canyon

Featuring Buck Meek, Jonathan Wilson & Ny Oh: HERE

Plays Sold-Out Intimate Headline Date At London’s Lafayette This Friday

Margo Price brings listeners deeper down the psychedelic rabbit hole of her critically-acclaimed new album, Strays. Out in full on October 13th, Strays II expands the original 2023 opus with nine new songs that will arrive in the form of three distinct acts, each telling its own unique story of love, grief and acceptance.

On Act I: Topanga Canyon, available now via Loma Vista Recordings, Margo Price is joined by Strays producer Jonathan Wilson, as well as new collaborators including Buck Meek of Big Thief, plus singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ny Oh. Together they dive deeper into the sacrifices it takes to find freedom, the grit it takes to make it, and the consequences that come with all of it. Recorded at Wilson’s Topanga studio during the same life-changing sessions as the rest of Strays – and partially written amidst the formative, six-day psilocybin trip that Margo Price and Jeremy Ivey took the summer prior – all three acts of Strays II further complement and intensify the resilient, resounding, and hard-rocking proclamation that Price delivered across the initial LP earlier this year. Listen to Act I: Topanga Canyon HERE.

Accompanied by a three-part short film directed by Chris Phelps and recently previewed at the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles, Strays II will continue to unfold throughout the coming weeks with the release of Act II: Mind Travel and Act III: Burn Whatever’s Left. All nineteen tracks will then combine into the double album’s digital release on October 13th, followed by a vinyl LP release of the nine new Strays II songs on November 10th – pre-order it here. Of the three new additions out today, Margo Price says:

“The title track is the story of how my husband Jeremy and I met and fell in love in Nashville two decades ago. I wrote most of the words and Jeremy wrote the chords and melody. It also reflects how we have always tried to stay true to who we are as people: ‘Love and pain it comes in waves but it was quite enough in those early days, we were wild as wolves my darlin’, we were strays.’

‘Closer I Get’ (co-written with Jeremy Ivey) was originally meant to open this double album with the line, ‘Being alive costs a lot of money but so does dying.’ I’ve always thought it was unfair that the moment we are born, we immediately start racking up debt just for existing. This song was conjured from the ashes of our initial psychedelic trip – sometimes your perception and depth of field changes depending on where you’re at in life.

‘Malibu’ was written with Mike Campbell in his Malibu home after Jeremy and I had driven through the canyon fleeing a forest fire to get my guitar from our Airbnb. I had the start of the song and brought it to him looking to finish it out. I wanted to write something with a country funk/Bobbie Gentry feel, a good long rambling story about the minutiae of the day, like ‘Ode to Billy Joe.’ Mike added the long ‘California’ yodel and the bridge and was exactly what the song needed. My favorite line is ‘love and grief are a package deal, the more you have, the more you feel.’”

Like Strays and its many “stoic pearls of wisdom” (Pitchfork), Strays II reveals more of what makes Margo Price so “unstoppable, unsinkable, uninhibited” (The New York Times). Surmounting loss, trauma, substance abuse, demons of self-worth and more, the songs of Strays have cemented her place as a singular storyteller, with so much to say but nothing to prove. Since the album’s release, Price has earned nominations for Artist of The Year, Album of The Year and Song of The Year (“Change of Heart”) at the upcoming Americana Honors & Awards, tying for the most nominations of any single artist in 2023.

Recently, Margo Price also revealed details of the new Jessi Colter album that she produced (Edge of Forever), hosted a star-studded tribute to John Prine for Newport Folk Festival, performed with My Morning Jacket and Angel Olsen, celebrated Willie Nelson at his 90th birthday, played shows with Chris Stapleton and Tyler Childers, published a powerful, personal essay about gun control at Rolling Stone, met with Tennessean lawmakers and sang alongside Dr. Jill Biden at Nashville’s vigil for the Covenant shooting victims. She has brought Strays songs and stories to CBS Mornings and The Late Late Show with “Radio” collaborator Sharon Van Etten, discussed her memoir Maybe We’ll Make It during the closing keynote of SXSW, taped an episode of Austin City Limits, reigned for 14 weeks at #1 on the Americana radio charts with “Change of Heart,” and released a new version of that song with Sierra Ferrell

Following a long-awaited return to the UK this week, Margo Price and her band will hit the road for an autumn leg of her ‘Til The Wheels Fall Off Tour. In addition to headline dates across the country, Price will play festivals including Hopscotch, XPoNential, Pilgrimage and Farm Aid, where Price is the first female artist to sit on the board of directors. After wrapping up a sold out 33-date European Summer tour, Simply Red today release a superb single mix of ‘It Wouldn’t Be Me’, taken from their latest album Time.

A stunning, melodic love song, ‘It Wouldn’t Be Me’ tells the story of a woman who has escaped her difficult past, meets someone and falls in love. “I don’t write stories very often” says Hucknall of the song, “but it’s about a girl who is scared of what she used to be. The narrator of the song loves her despite her past and isn’t gonna give up on her”.

Time was received with unanimous and emphatic praise by the media. Clash Magazine branded it another stellar example of a perfectly-crafted pop-soul album, with Retropop Magazine declaring it as “an essential record”, and Record Collector noting that “Time is arguably the singer’s (Mick Hucknall)’s most personal work to date.

With a career spanning 12 studio albums as Simply Red (five of them Number Ones), two solo albums, back-to-back ASCAP Most Performed Song honours (1987 and 1988) for Holding Back The Years, consecutive Brit Awards (1992 and 1993) for Best British Group, a Brit for Best British Male (1993), the 1997 MOBO for Outstanding Achievement, two Ivor Novellos (1992 Songwriter of the Year; 2002 Outstanding Song Collection), some 60 million album sales, 1.8 billion streams across all streaming platforms worldwide, and over 1 million YouTube subscribers, Mick is ready to continue the ride into the next chapter.

After celebrating with a very special one-off launch show at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire back in June, and playing a host of European Summer shows this year, the band will return to the UK to play BBC Radio 2’s sold out ‘Live In The Park’ on September 17th in Leicester’s Victoria Park.
