Wessex Grove, Gavin Kalin Productions and Playful Productions are delighted to announce the World Premiere of John Cassavetes’ OPENING NIGHT, a new musical with book by Ivo van Hove and music and lyrics by Rufus Wainwright.

Directed and conceived by Ivo van Hove and starring Sheridan Smith as Myrtle, it will play a strictly limited season at the Gielgud Theatre in London’s West End from 6 March to 27 July 2024. Further casting to be announced soon.

Based on John Cassavetes’ legendary film, OPENING NIGHT follows a theatre company’s preparations to stage a major new play on Broadway. But drama ignites behind the scenes when their leading lady is rocked by tragedy, and her personal turmoil forces everybody to deliver the performance of their lives.

Rufus Wainwright said “For me John Cassavetes’s movie Opening Night has long been a shining beacon representing both excellence in cinema and the might of live theatre. An intense marriage of film and stage it is about a very personal mental and creative survival that I think we can all relate to on a very deep human level. I’ve been waiting for ages to write my first musical and with this fantastic story plus the incomparable Sheridan Smith, not to mention the incredible Ivo van Hove, I don’t think I could have aimed any higher”.

Following news of his stunning new album The Light Fantastic and five intimate dates for February 2024 earlier this month, John Bramwell has announced an additional twenty three UK and Ireland headline dates for spring/summer 2024.

Anyone who has heard John’s work with seminal Manchester band I Am Kloot, will be cheered by the news of this impending release. Nominated for a Mercury Prize in 2010 for their acclaimed Sky At Night album, I Am Kloot never quite received the widespread success their music deserved.

This new album is a masterclass in emotionally charged and melodically driven tunes for the adventurous. All 12 tracks were written by John except for ‘Nobody Left But You’ which he co-wrote with album producer Dave Fidler.

“After both my Mum and Dad died, I started writing these songs to cheer myself up,” John admits with typical candour. “The themes are taken from my dreams at the time. Wake up and take whatever impression I had from what I could remember of my dream and write that.”

Despite the sentiment, the songs are surprisingly uplifting. And will no doubt be exceptional live.

Kicking off with three dates at London’s St Pancras Old Church in February, John Bramwell will play the following shows next year. Tickets are on sale now.

Exciting new American band Tiny Habits release their superb new single ‘Small Enough’ – listen here. The band formed in Boston, Massachusetts at the start of 2022 after Maya Rae, Cinya Khan and Judah Mayowa met while at the Berklee College of Music. All three are accomplished singers and songwriters.

Recorded at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, California with producer Tony Berg (boygenius, Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers), ‘Small Enough’ was written by the band and showcases their lush harmonies and intimate vocals on this bittersweet gem.

The ‘Small Enough’ music video is directed by Weston Borg (The War On Drugs) and marks the band’s first time together behind the camera. Filmed in Boston where the band first met, it’s a wink to their roots, but suggests that while change is inevitable, it is always nice to reminisce on the past.

Tiny Habits have been touring Europe as special guests to US singer songwriter-sensation Noah Kahan and start the UK leg of the tour tonight in Leeds. They also play two shows in London at the 02 Kentish Town Forum November 21^st and 22^nd before headlining their own show at XOYO on November 22nd – tickets here.

They return to the UK next year for their own headline shows in May, including London’s KOKO,

The band first received recognition and early support from a diverse bunch of artists including the late, great David Crosby, Marcus Mumford, Phoebe Bridgers, and Noah Kahan

Tiny Habits’ first two singles ‘pennies (voice memo)’ & ‘hemenway’ were released at the end of 2022, and were met with an overwhelming response, garnering over 1 million plays across all digital streaming platforms in the first couple of months.

Their debut EP Tiny Things was released in April 2023. Earlier this year, the band opened for Gracie Abrams across North America, followed by their own sold-out US tour.

Without a doubt, Tiny Habits look set to be one of the breakout acts for 2024.

Middlesbrough-born and Brit Billion-certified artist James Arthur has today announced a massive homecoming show at Riverside Stadium on Saturday 8th June 2024. This will be James’ biggest headline show to date and will see him joined by special guests McFly and Lauran Hibberd. Tickets go on sale Friday 10th November at 9am via here.

After becoming 2019’s biggest UK-signed selling artist, with a number 1 debut album, an international hit single in ‘Leave A Light On’, three million worldwide album sales and over four billion global streams in tow, Tom Walker makes his hard-fought return with brand new studio record, I Am, out May 31st, 2024.

Where previously, Tom became known for powerful accounts of other people’s stories, including a friend’s battle with drugs (‘Leave A Light On’), and articulating his own relatable feelings for his now wife (‘Just You & I’); he now finds himself writing about his own personal struggles and anxieties, creative challenges, sadness and moments of despair. It is a sometimes visceral account of who Tom Walker is in 2023, hence the title: I Am.

“I Am is a culmination of me trying to figure out who I am for the last four years.” explains Tom. “This record is a snapshot of what’s been going on in my life, and what’s been happening around me – what’s made me happy or sad, ecstatic or miserable.”

The first taste of new music came last month with the rallying cry comeback single ‘Burn’, which took a swipe at his record label over urgent, hammering beats. Today sees second offering ‘Freaking Out’ (listen here) – a huge song nailed with a dream team of producers Fraser T. Smith (Adele, Stormzy) and Stuart Price (Madonna, The Killers). It’s a personal cry for help which tackles social anxiety and addresses the re-learning of how to be himself and the creative artist forcibly stalled by Covid.

After writing, and binning, a plethora of new tracks, an exhausted Tom subsequently headed out to Los Angeles to write with the McDonough brothers, Toby Gadd, Ryan Daly & Castle, who’s credits between them include Beyonce, Joji, Khalid, Mimi Webb and John Legend. The trip reignited the excitement and love of trying brand new things.

The results speak for themselves. As well as ‘Freaking Out’ and ‘Burn’, there’s ‘Head Underwater’, a soulful rhythmic pop anthem with a soaring vocal that, again, sounds like a whole new Walker. For ‘Holy Ghost’, think: Hozier produced by Labrinth – hymnal, electronic soul, and finally, a mention for ‘Lifeline’. No one outside Tom’s inner-circle will be hearing this towering ballad until next year – the emotions behind it are too raw. It’s a searingly emotional tribute to a friend who died by suicide in March.

Off the back of scoring his first ever UK number 1 album with Unreal Unearth earlier this year, Irish superstar Hozier announces the biggest UK & Irish headline shows of his career. After a captivating sold-out show at London’s Lafayette in August, Margo Price returns to the UK and Ireland for a run of dates in January 2024. Kicking off at Gorilla in Manchester on January 26th, Margo also plays the Old Fruitmarker in Glasgow and Vicar Street in Dublin, before the run culminates with a date at KOKO in London on January 30th. Starting the year with the release of her acclaimed album Strays, which Sunday Times Culture called “Astounding” in their 4* Album Of The Week review and NME stating “it’s sonically brave and lyrically obstinate, a rare delight that stands out from its counterparts,” in a glowing 4* review, Margo Price released the album’s second part to critical acclaim in October.

Like Strays and its many “stoic pearls of wisdom” (Pitchfork), Strays II reveals more of what makes Margo Price so “unstoppable, unsinkable, uninhibited” (The New York Times). Surmounting loss, trauma, substance abuse, demons of self-worth and more, the songs of Strays have cemented her place as a singular storyteller, with so much to say but nothing to prove. Since the album’s release, Price has earned nominations for Artist of The Year, Album of The Year and Song of The Year (‘Change of Heart’) at the Americana Honors & Awards, tying for the most nominations of any single artist in 2023.

Today, the mysterious NYC artist Cult Of Venus shares their newest single ‘Time

 Capsule,’ a revolution-minded reflection on the inescapable cycles of violence and the dimming horizons of peace, as well as on how one finds hope, empathy, and motivation amidst the inundation of media imagery and propagandist messaging. 

Combining the desperation of prime PJ Harvey, the scorched-earth polemic of Savages, and electronic flourishes reminiscent of ANOHNI, ‘Time Capsule’ seethes with urgency — a fitting and affecting commentary on violent times and rising up against one’s own apathy and desensitisation. Following the release of her debut mixtape Black Is The New Gold earlier this year, which has been shortlisted at the Scottish Album Of The Year Awards, one of 2023’s breakout stars Brooke Combe returns with her euphoric new single ‘Praise’. Produced by The Coral’s James Skelly and Jaidan Millar at the brand new Kempton Street Studios in Liverpool, ‘Praise’ is an empowering call to arms. Drenched in soul, the gospel influenced track still sees Brooke planted in her indie rock roots with her fierce vocal cutting deep as she takes back authority on this guitar driven anthem.

“’Praise’ is about a few things. It touches on female empowerment and taking back control over my future,” Brooke said of the track. “I found myself in a situation where I started to feel almost like a puppet. Like I was being shaped into something I wasn’t and that just isn’t really who I am. I feel like it’s an all too familiar scenario, women in today’s society feeling pressured to toe the line. So here we are, demanding the praise and respect we deserve.“

Following triumphant shows at Glastonbury, TRNSMT and Neighbourhood Festivals, Brooke heads out on a run of her biggest UK headline dates this November, including a show at London’s Dingwalls on November 30th. Tickets are on-sale HERE.
